Marie Bernon married Abraham Tourtellotte (Turtelot) about 1693. Abraham's years,1655-1704, was spent as a Huguenot who had fled to England during the religious troubles following Louis XIV's Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1785. He moved on to Boston in 1687, arriving aboard the good ship Friendship. Abraham was a widower with three boys, each of whom became planters in Haiti. His brother Benjamin died during the voyage to America.
Abraham and Marie had three children of their own: Gabriel, born Sept. 24, 1694, Esther born June 12, 1696, and Abraham (see below). Marie was widowed when Abraham and his eldest son were lost at sea aboard a family ship in 1706. Esther married Israel Harding Jan. 19, 1716.
Abraham Tourtellotte was born in Newport, R.I. March 22,1698, and died in Gloster, R. I., Nov. 23, 1762. His last will is dated Nov. 19, 1757. About 1719 he married Lydia, daughter of Isaac and Dorothy (Hearndon) Ballard (Mar. 29, 1700-about 1740). Jan. 29, 1743, Abraham took a second wife: Hannah Case. His third and final wife was Welthian (Sheldon) Williams, with whom he had no children. His children with Lydia: Mary born March 30, 1720, married Hezadiah Mitchell; Lydia born Jan. 24, 1721, married Thomas Knowlton; Lydia's twin Esther born Jan 24, 1821, married Samuel Dunn, Sr.; Abraham (see below); Jonathan born Sept. 23, 1728, married Mary Brown; Benjamin born Nov. 30, 1730, married Jerusha Ballard; and Sarah born April 22, 1735, married John Inman. His children with Hannah: Stephen born about 1743 married Mary Smith; William born June 6, 1747, married Phoebe Whitman; Jesse born Mar. 6, 1748; married Lydia Angell; Daniel born Mar. 26, 1751, married 1. Urania Keech and 2. Anne Burlingame; Anne born about 1753.
Abraham Tortellotte (Feb. 27, 1725-May 12, 1779) was born in Providence, R. I. He was a captain in the French and Indian War in "Captain Kimball's Company". He also served in the Revolution, first as an ensign in the Rhode Island navy, then several terms in the state militia. Oct. 11, 1747, he married Phoebe (abt 1730-1808), daughter of Thomas Thornton. The children: Mary, Michael (see below), Bernon (1753-1838), Isaac, Israel, Joseph, Amasa, Dinah, Emma, Esak, James, Joshua, Stephen, and Esther.
Michael Tourtellotte (Feb. 2, 1748-Oct. 14, 1814) was born in Rhode Island and died in Thompson, Windham County, Connecticut. About 1770 he married Elizabeth, daughter of Ezekiel Smith. Her years are 1750-1794. The Smith family has been traced back to back to England and seems to have arrived in Massachusetts very early. Her grandfather, Clement Corbin, was born in Brookline, Mass., in 1626. Michael and Elizabeth's kids; Mary, Phoebe, Thomas, Amy, Sarah, Mary 2, Ezekiel, Solomon, Smith, William, Daniel, Phoebe 2 (see below).
Michael Turtolot (note spelling) is in the 1790 census in Windham County; he showed two males over 16, one under 16, and three females. Other Turtolot heads of households nearby in 1790 were Enoch, Joshua, Barnabas, Isaac, and Israel. Tourtellotte High School is in North Grosvenor, Connecticut; this is just north of where the Tourtellottes lived in Windham County.
